Whimsical Meaning

The word "whimsical" (or whimsy) means amusing, fun, fanciful or even playfulness. To me it just means JOY! I try to make each day joyful by filling my days with goodness.

3" x 5" Index Cards Made in to Two Notebooks - Instructions Below :)

My son knows my love of paper (it's something we have in common) so he gave me various index cards as part of my Mother's Day present this past weekend. Some of you might say "weird"... but nope, not me!! I love, love, LOVE paper!! Some were lined, some had grids and others had the dots. So, of course, my mind instantly goes to thinking of what I can make with it all ;)

Aren't these awesome?! I love how they turned out. Here's what I did:

Depending on the thickness of your 3" x 5" index cards (different brands have different thickness of the paper) take 12-15 cards and cut them in half. Put the two piles together. Use the amount that equals 1/4" thickness. Don't make it any thicker than that or it will mess up your score lines.

Use clips or rubber bands to hold them tight together, making sure the top is nice and flat. Then take your liquid glue of choice (Elmer's would probably work fine but I prefer and use all the time, Tombow liquid glue) and glue all along the top edge. Then use your finger to smooth it out, making sure the glue covers entire top and every page. Set aside to dry.

Now, take your 2 5/8" x 8 1/2" piece of cardstock.
Score at 3 1/8", 3 3/8" and 6 1/2"
Cut diagonally on the smallest section which is 2 7/8" x 2" (this will be your front pocket).

Bend and press (burnish) all your score lines. Notice below how I bent the small diagonal section the opposite direction. If desired, this is where you can distress the edges like I did. I used Tim Holtz ink in a dark brownish color. I love that more vintage "aged" look!

Cut your Decorative Paper:
2 3/8" x 2 7/8" (cut two)
2 7/8" x 1 3/4" (cut one and cut diagonally for the pocket)
Glue the piece on the front. Then the triangle piece on the front of the pocket. Then the back piece.
Once all pieces are glued on, put a thin line of glue along the left edge of the inside of pocket. Fold up and hold in place until glue is dry.

Now, glue the 1/4" inside part for the top of the notecard notepad you made. Press top of notepad firmly against that area until glue is dry.

And you're done. It makes for a nice notebook for your desktop or purse.

You can tuck little notes in the pocket. I thought it would be cool to put a pen/pencil loop at the top too. I didn't on these 5 I made but maybe I will on the next few I make. Hope you enjoyed this. I would love to see how yours turned out. Feel free to comment here or email me a picture at tamstand85 AT gmail.com

I used Stampin' Up! cardstock but the decorative paper is some I've had on hand and not sure where it's from. I love it though!

Time to start thinking "Back to School"

I remember when my kids were small, about this time of summer, I was always thinking of what I had to buy for school, who needed what, how ...
